Policing the Globe
What is policing? How has the practice of policing changed over time? How does policing affect our daily lives? These are all questions that students in Professor Amit Prakash’s “Policing the Globe” class tried to answer. Through recording podcasts, writing papers, and creating presentations, students approached the historical study of policing through a diverse array of lenses. Projects range from studying desegregation in Boston, discussing surveillance programs with the Chief of Middlebury Police, revisiting Michel Foucault’s discourses on incarceration, to interviewing minority police officers in the Los Angeles Police Department.
